Vauxhall Insignia
Vauxhall unveiled the Insignia at this year's British International Motor Show, where its sporty silhouette, class-leading aerodynamics and innovative technology earned it praise from customers and media alike.
Replacing the outgoing Vectra, the Vauxhall Insignia will be going up against the likes of the popular Ford Mondeo, Volkswagen Passat and Mazda 6.
The Vauxhall Insignia will be available with seven engines (with a six speed manual or automatic gearbox) including a 2.8-litre V6 which produces 260bhp and also features all-wheel drive for the first time on a Vauxhall saloon since the Cavalier in the mid-Nineties
The Insignia comes in the following trim levels:
With an exemplary result of 35 points out of a maximum 37, Euro NCAP has awarded the Vauxhall Insignia a five-star adult occupant rating. The Insignia was also awarded four stars for child protection and two stars for pedestrian protection - the best ratings given so far in the large family car segment.
"We designed, engineered and built the Insignia to be one of the safest cars on the road and the way it performed in the Euro NCAP tests confirms the relevance of our technical solutions," says Hans Demant, Vice President of Engineering for General Motors Europe
In one of the hardest-fought contests in recent years, Vauxhall's Insignia has taken the honours as 2009 European Car of the Year.
Steve Cropley, editor-in-chief of Autocar, COTY's British-based sponsoring magazine said: "We are delighted to be able to deliver good news at such a tough time. The market's the toughest we've seen for 20 years, but nothing alters the fact that the Insignia is a great car.... it deserved to triumph and it did."
The Vauxhall Insignia has also received the TopGear.com award for Executive Car of the Year.
The Insignia was praised by Top Gear's journalists for being '..aspirational, appealing and special.' The team also noted how far ahead of the game Vauxhall was with the Insignia's technology, with features like its Front Camera System that can recognise road signs, and its latest adaptive headlights, with nine settings. They also thought that the car looked '...neat and stylish from all angles.'
