Japanese Manufacturers Top Reliability Survey

It will come as little surprise to most people that Japanese manufacturers have come top of a recent reliability survey carried out by consumer watchdog which?

The survey of almost 100,000 motorists revealed that Honda was top, with an overall reliability rating of 85%, followed closely by Toyota (84%), Daihatsu (83%), Lexus (83%), Mazda (83%), Subaru and Suzuki (both 83%).

Honda proved to be winners and losers in the poll. Although their Jazz model claimed top spot with an exceptional 96% reliability score, the manufacturer’s new Civic model faired very poorly, receiving a score of just 82%. Civic owners have reported problems with the fuel system, steering and suspension. This was in contrast to the previous generation Civic which actually came top in the medium-size car sector.

Another surprise was the low score of the Volkswagen Passat, which also came in at 82%, a disappointing score for a manufacturer with such an outstanding reputation for reliability.
