Feeling The Pinch
Everyone seems to be feeling the pinch at the moment, and car drivers are some of the worst affected.
If the seemingly endless stories of fuel price rises and shortages have got you down, don’t despair! Here at Select, we have devised a list of hints and tips to help you save money on your motoring.
- Slow down – Did you know that cars travelling at 60mph will use upto 30% less fuel than those travelling at 70? Worth considering for motorists who cover a lot of miles.
- Switch off the air con – Air conditioning units are powered by the engine and so affect petrol consumption significantly. If you can stand the heat, this is a good way to cut fuel consumption.
- Pump up your tyres – Keeping your tyres inflated to the correct level will ensure that your car runs as efficiently as possible. Under-inflated tyres not only lead to increased fuel consumption, but also have an adverse affect on the handling of your car. Check your handbook for the optimum pressure
- Shop around for fuel – There is huge variation between forecourts across the country, so it pays to shop around. Many garages have pushed prices up claiming they are attempting to prevent panic buying. Cynics say that this is little more than shameless profiteering.
- Think about changing your car – Now could be a good time to consider changing your car for something more economical. It could also be a good way to free up valuable equity in your current motor. Select have a full range of economical executive, sports car, 4x4 and commercial van leasing options
